Ethan’s Story:

On June 29, 2013, at URJ Goldman Union Camp Institute, a summer camp near Indianapolis, Ethan Kadish was teaching a small group of his peers how to play Ultimate Frisbee when a bolt of lightning out of a clear blue sky struck him to the ground.  Everything changed for Ethan in that one moment.  He suffered a severe brain injury as a result of the lightning strike.

Today, Ethan still has a long road ahead of him.  He has an extensive daily schedule of different therapies seven days per week — all designed to help him reestablish basic sensory connections within his brain. Ethan requires nursing care, receives all of his nutrition through a feeding tube, and needs a wheelchair to get around.  He is unable to speak or move independently.  Costs of his care exceed $100,000 annually.

The Kadish Family is working directly with HelpHOPELive.org,  a nonprofit which engages communities in fundraising to help patients and families ease the financial burden of a medical crisis.  All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great Lakes Catastrophic Injury Fund and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to Ethan's fundraising campaign.

Families are encouraged to donate to HelpHOPELive in lieu of a gift exchange on the 8th night of Chanukah, December 23rd, and to light their eighth candle in Ethan’s honor.  Post your photos on Twitter with  #8NE2 and Join Team Ethan – Facebook.  Read more about  Team Ethan.
